The IAC has invited Bernard Fort to present an evening of electroacoustic music as part of the Music & Images Festival at the National School of Music in Villeurbanne, from 29 April - 10 May 2010.
Rather than a concert, this is an evening devoted to experimentation with sound, its substance, its spatial circumstances and its potential for interconnection with images.
Co-founder and artistic director of the Groupe de Musiques Vivantes a Lyon (GMVL) since 1976, Bernard Fort has been teaching Acousmatic Composition at the National School of Music in Villeurbanne since 1992. Entirely devoted to acousmatics, his personal oeuvre is also fuelled by his passion for ornithology.
His compositional concerns have to do with the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, between the natural and the cultural; his research focuses mainly on the representational modes of electroacoustic musical forms. He works regularly with GRM, the Musical Research Group at the National Television Archive (INA).
At the Institute he is presenting John Cage's forty-minute vocal piece Lecture on Nothing (1959).
His guest will be Rémi Godichaud, a student in Electroacoustic Composition at the ENM, with his Untitled (2008-2010), a work in five eight-minute movements. This young composer's explorations draw both on John Cage's investigations into sound and the perceptual experiments of James Turrell.
