Using documentary and mise en scène, Hao Jingban is engaged in a long-term work of observation of Chinese society. The video artist is interested in a phenomenon particularly revealing of the upheavals associated with the advent of the People's Republic: the dance halls in the capital, meticulously filmed in slow shots that are often long and fixed. Hao Jingban sometimes uses interviews with close-ups, and sometimes films spontaneous scenes or reconstructions featuring all the aesthetic codes of the dance halls.
