Mitsunori Kimura’s works look as if they are about to wake up and fly away, or to turn towards the viewer. In his paintings, the figures seem to follow the visitor's gaze, but they tend to avoid it in his sculptures. In fact, the sculptures seem to gaze into the distance or to have fallen into a deep sleep. The artist takes pains to infuse a form of life into his productions, often by incorporating organic elements such as wood fibres that evoke hair, and suggest the living nature of the works. Their textured, sensual surfaces, as well as the brilliance of the oil paint and the volume achieved by the work on the wood, amount to a representation that goes beyond mere resemblance.
