Khadim Ali was born in Quetta, in Pakistan, near the Afghan border. He comes from an Afghan Hazara family who fled persecution by King Abdul Rahman in the 1890s. After studying mural painting in Tehran (Iran), he studied in Pakistan and then moved to Australia where he continued his artistic practice and exhibited in several shows including The Haunted Lotus (2010) and The Force of Forgetting (2011), bringing together artists from Afghanistan, who have witnessed the violence and climate of fear that prevail in that country.
