The thinking of Sinzo Aanza, author of the novel Généalogie d’une banalité (“Genealogy of a banality”), is guided by a feeling for the absurdity of contemporary life in the Congo, and of religious practices there, which favour the image of colonization at the expense of traditional values. Realizing this, Sinzo Aanza decided to go out and meet the public by reading his works on the buses and streets of Kinshasa, the places where revivalist preachers like to preach. The effect of this kind of direct action is that his performances are judged without the filter of Western influence.
