Le meilleur des mondes (the title being the French translation of Aldous Huxley's 1931 dystopian novel Brave New World*1, with the French title also inspired by a phrase from Voltaire's Candide) assembled artists who, using different modes of expression, report on their environment and take an acid look at the reality of society. The works of the artists were 'upset utopias'*2, a cynical portrait of contemporary society.
*1 Dystopian: a dystopia or counter-Utopia is a fictitious description of an imaginary society organised in such a way that it prevents its members from being happy and consists of a warning to readers from the author.
*2 The notion of literary utopia was invented by Thomas More in 1516 (Utopia); it described an ideal society or a political situation criticised through fiction and travel tales so that people can build a better world.
